The Challenge

A second-time client freshly relocated to the Pacific Northwest, unsure if she was even ready to restart her legal job search, and carrying a scarcity mindset about the legal market.

The Shift

The self-limiting-beliefs and 50-reasons-why exercises reconnected her to her original purpose for becoming an attorney and reset her search from scarcity to alignment.

The Outcome

Applied to only three roles, ran all three conversations at once, and accepted an aligned attorney offer in Oregon over a bigger, misaligned opportunity.

A Note From The Founder

Olivia Gamber, CEO

Caran is a two-time client, and that alone tells you something. She'd already been through the program once, during COVID, when the market forced her into a take-the-job-you-can-get situation. This time was different. She'd just sold her house in four days, relocated toward the Pacific Northwest, and was staring down a restart of her legal career with a question she couldn't shake: was she even ready to go back to work.

What struck me when she came back wasn't that she needed to learn something new. It was that she needed to remember something she already knew. Twenty years earlier she'd become an attorney for a specific reason, to help people navigate situations they couldn't get themselves out of. Somewhere along the way, through a string of big-company jobs she took because they were available rather than because she wanted them, that reason had gotten buried.

She read the book, ran the exercises, and reconnected with that original purpose. What followed wasn't a scramble. It was three targeted conversations and one clear decision about who she wanted to be as an attorney, not just what job she'd accept.

THE RESTART

Caran

...I was really trying to realign with what I wanted my career to be... but of course it was COVID, so it was more like a take the job that you can get type of situation.

...the mindset piece, just it's hard when you're looking for a job, the uncertainty... one of the things was I don't know if I was ready to start the job search, am I ready, do I, am I ready to go back to work.

“It's not about asking them or being in that scarcity”

RECONNECTING WITH PURPOSE

Caran

...so the first thing you do is the self-limiting beliefs... it wasn't, some of them were self-limiting beliefs, some of them were actual factual, the experience doesn't align with this position here.

...that was part of what I did this time, was reconnect with my purpose, why am I doing this, why am I pursuing this career, and that really helped me realign who and where I was applying for positions.

“That was part of what I did this time was reconnect with my purpose, why am I doing this, why am I pursuing this career”

CHOOSING ALIGNMENT OVER SIZE

Caran

...I wanted to be much smaller, more personalized, and this was a big company... I think I've always worked for big companies and that's not maybe where I ever wanted to be, it's just where I was, you take the opportunities as they come.

...I actually called my attorneys and talked to them, they're in their 70s, and they were like, that's awesome, we knew that.

“I wanted to be much smaller, more personalized, and this was a big company”

THE OFFER

Caran

Once I was clear on what I wanted I targeted those roles as they came up... I only applied for three and I had great conversations with all three groups. I actually still have one conversation to go but I already accepted the other offer.

“Once I was clear on what I wanted I targeted those roles as they came up”

Olivia Gamber

...seriously, congrats, you've come a long way. I see you moved from reactive to visionary alignment, you're thinking at such a higher level now, so you're on a whole new trajectory.

Ready to Stop Applying?

Caran didn't need more applications. She needed alignment, and once she had it, three conversations were enough. If you're ready to search from clarity instead of scarcity, let's talk.

[Question shown on screen]: So what made you come back to career-evolved in the first place, obviously as a two-time winner? And what were your biggest takeaways?

Caran: it was more like a take the job that you can get type of

Caran: one of the things was I like don't know if I was ready to start the job search like I am I ready do I am I ready to go back to work you

Caran: I wanted to be and where I wanted to go with my career and really I wanted to be much like smaller more um personalized and this was a company a big company so and I think as I've been through my career like I I think I've always worked for big companies and that's not maybe where I ever wanted to be it's just where I was like you take the opportunities as they come

Caran: why did I you know work full-time and go to school part-time for 18 years to get a degree and then take positions that weren't in alignment with what I wanted to do with that career like my vision for it when I started it 20 years ago

Caran: and then I knew nobody was hiring just from being in a field where um I worked a lot with recruiters and and business people and CFOs and CEOs and like just how business worked for the last three years so I decided to wait until January and then um I reached out to Olivia I think in December and said you know I'll be ready in January um and then I read the book which you sent over and that reminded me of a lot of the things so when I when I read the book

Caran: reset my mindset of where I wanted to be like it's not about like asking them or being in that scarcity because

Caran: part of what I did this time was reconnect with my purpose like why am I doing this why am I pursuing this career and that really helped me realign who and where I was applying for positions

Olivia: how did you build the the opportunity and the leverage like how did it all come together um it really was just you know I don't know like the universe

Caran: I already accepted the other offer so I just trying as a professional courtesy um but yeah it they were just all three really great

[Question shown on screen]: So I'd love to hear, like, how did you build the opportunity and the leverage? How did it all come together?

Caran: I only applied for three um and I had great conversations with all three groups I

Caran: the first thing you do is the self-limiting beliefs so actually when I did the self-limiting beliefs it it wasn't some of them were self-limiting beliefs some of them were actual factual

Caran: and I think that was the big realization from going through this um program was that I'm looking out of alignment for where I actually want to be if

Caran: do I want to be like the my like when you write out your 50 reasons why you know then I kind of use that as an exercise to be like why do I want to be in the legal field

Caran: then I realigned and started applying to positions in Oregon um where I am

Caran: once I was clear on what I wanted I kind of targeted those rules as they came up like

Caran: I started having conversations with um like recruiters folks in the field some of the people I reached out to some of the um folks that I knew and talked to them um both in like my area and like all over because I actually went to school back in the Midwest and just talked to them about

Caran: and I actually called my attorneys and talked to them they're like in their 70s and they were like oh that's awesome we knew that because

Caran: mean it would have been a lot a lot of growing for me and I could have done it but I don't know at the end of the day it was something that I would want to do because

Caran: as I had the conversations I was like oh no they need someone much more advanced than me to get where they're going

Caran: so then when I decided to um do this again so we
