The Challenge

Over a year of searching after being laid off from a job she'd relocated her family for, with only a few interviews and no offers.

The Shift

She stopped changing her personality to seem hireable and did the identity work to get validated at a C-suite level.

The Outcome

A $30k increase over the initial offer, negotiated by showing up authentic, consultative, and detached.

A Note From The Founder

Olivia Gamber, CEO

When Louise came to us, she'd been out of work for over a year. She'd moved her entire family to Florida for what she thought was the perfect job, then lost it. The guilt of that decision sat on her longer than she realized. She was in HR, she knew how hiring worked, and none of it made sense to her anymore.

What struck me in our first conversations wasn't a skills gap. Louise had the experience. She had the confidence, once. What she'd lost was herself. She was walking into interviews as a version of Louise built to be agreeable, not the version built to lead.

She told me she chose us over other programs because we weren't going to script her. That single distinction mattered more than she expected it would. The work that followed wasn't about tightening her answers. It was about giving her back her own voice, then trusting it in the room.

THE WEIGHT SHE WAS CARRYING

Louise

I was not in a good mental space at all when we met. I had been looking for a job for well over a year... it was an emotional, for me, a very emotional time because I never really had a job. I had trouble finding a job.

I had been laid off from a job that I thought was the perfect job... So to come down here to Florida and lose my job and not be able to find one, the amount of guilt that I was holding, I didn't even realize how much guilt I was holding until I got to the forgiveness section of the class.

Louise

I really felt alone. So you're stuck in your house. You're not going out, so what are you doing? I didn't have any other outlets except this.

“I was answering questions and trying to fit myself into somebody else's job. I was so desperate for a job that I was changing my personality in the job interview.”

FINDING HER VOICE AGAIN

Louise

I had looked at other companies and the biggest thing I found with Career Evolved was that you're very adamant about getting my voice back. And that to me was huge, because every other company I spoke to talked about how they would tell us what to say. But at the end of the day, I thought, well, I need to be me. I need to be my authentic self.

Louise

At the end of the day, the work I did with CE wasn't so much about finding a job. It was about finding myself. And that made a huge difference, because I had the skills. I always had them...

But to hear somebody validate my level of experience when you said, yes, we'll take you on. I believe you can get to a C-suite level. You are C-suite. Had somebody validate my skills and my talent level and my energy, it was a spark.

“The work I did with CE wasn't so much about finding a job. It was about finding myself.”

SHOWING UP AS HERSELF

Louise

To have the weekly meeting, to get connected to people, meet with them outside of the regular meetings, just really helped keep me focused on what I needed to do... my second interview was on Zoom. And the first thing he said to me was, you're professionally dressed and you have a really awesome background.

Olivia Gamber

Well, that's marketing. It's packaging and people that think about that.

Louise

You're actually stepping outside of the question and turning it around, say, how can I help you? So those thoughts were in the back of my head during every question that was asked... I added additional commentary to my interview so that they could see another side. It wasn't just answer the question and then be quiet.

Olivia Gamber

You went into this with more of a consultative sales approach in service, right? And that's a framework and it's a mindset. But I think what's really powerful is you were also genuine, because this was a family owned business and they needed to feel that connection to trust you.

THE NEGOTIATION AND WHAT CAME AFTER

Louise

I don't think I would have gotten past the first Zoom interview where that was recorded... the father comment was, I watched your interview with the consultant. He said, I've watched it a few times. He goes, and I liked what you had to say.

I was present, very present and detached in a way that I wasn't like, oh my gosh, I'm going to starve to death if I don't get this job.

Olivia Gamber

That's the key, right? Cause they need to see you as needing them less than you need them, right? The dynamic has to be, they need to need you more than you need them for you to really be able to be in your power.

Louise

Every conversation I had with outside people, every contact I made... gave me some other part that I needed to hear at that exact moment.

Louise

I am a hundred percent better off than I long before I started. I think this is my best version of myself that I've seen in a really long time.

Olivia: share your story. Can you share a little bit about, you know, why you came to Career Evolved, where you were when we met?

Louise: I had been looking for a job for well over a year. Now, I had some setbacks, some surgeries, and so it wasn't a solid year, but it was an emotional, for me, a very emotional time because I never really had a job. I had trouble finding a job. I had been on

[Question shown on screen]: Can you share a little bit about why you came to Career Evolved, where you were when we met?

Louise: I had been laid off from a job that I thought was the perfect job. And it really wasn't the perfect job. So me being laid off was probably exactly what needed to happen for me. But it was exhausting because I literally had moved my entire family to a whole different state. I moved everything. And I gave up everything. My husband, my family did too. So to come down here to Florida and lose my job and not be able to find one, the amount of guilt that I was holding, I didn't even realize how much guilt I was holding until I got to the forgiveness section of the class,

Olivia: What do you think got you there through this process? Obviously, you really committed to the identity transformation. Yeah. Sounds like.

Louise: is I was answering questions and trying to fit myself into somebody else's job. I was trying to make myself hireable by saying yes to things that I, it wouldn't be my style. It wouldn't be my right

Olivia: what? I don't want to do this alone. And guess what? If it were me, I wouldn't want to do it alone in 2025. It's a crazy market. It's crazy.

Louise: I really felt alone. So you're stuck in your house. You're not going out, you know, so what are you doing? You know, I didn't have any other outlets except this.

Louise: I had looked at other companies and the biggest thing I found with Career Evolve was that you're very adamant about getting my voice back.

Olivia: What was the biggest challenge to get you out of that mindset and get you back to break through?

Louise: to hear somebody validate my level of experience when you said, yes, we'll take you on. I believe you can get to a C-suite level. You are C-suite. Had somebody validate my skills and my talent level and my energy that even though I was not even at my best self, when I felt validated, it was a spark.

Olivia: were going in with your normal approach, you wouldn't have got a $30,000 increase out of them. There's no way.

Louise: I don't think I would have gotten past the first Zoom interview where that was recorded and all three of the, the family members told me in my, my in-person interview that, um, the father comment was, I watched your, your interview with the consultant. Um, and he said, I've watched it a few times.

Olivia: what was the biggest, like, like what are the biggest takeaways for you as you move forward?

Louise: I am a hundred percent better off than I, long before I started. I think this is my best version of myself that I've seen in a really long time.

Louise: to have the weekly meeting, to get connected to people, meet with them outside of the regular meetings, just really helped keep me focused

Olivia: what would you say to them?

Louise: every conversation I had with outside people, every contact I made, every interview that I had outside of, not interview, but within our group and every, every person I spoke to gave me some other part that I needed to hear at that exact moment.

Louise: I had a long conversation with one of our, with Debra and she busted me on so many things. And I, I so needed that. I absolutely needed everything she said. Like, do you really believe that? Like when I would say something and think I'd really, that was the right answer. Right. And she'd be like, you believe that? I don't think you believe that. I don't think, wait, what? And, but she was so spot on with what she said. I needed to hear that. I absolutely needed her to say, sounds to me like you're questioning your decision. Sounds to me like
