The Challenge

Alex repeatedly reached the final round of corporate interviews only to have the offer never materialize, and began to doubt her own price point and worth.

The Shift

She decided to stop waiting on a corporation to write the check and instead create her own opportunity, holding to her full price even as doubt crept in.

The Outcome

Alex secured a fractional COO/CHRO/CTO-style consulting engagement with a growing fire alarm company, accepted at her stated price with no negotiation.

A Note From The Founder

Olivia Gamber, CEO

Alex came to us doing everything right. She was making it to the final round, over and over, with companies telling her directly that they wanted to bring her on board. And then it just went nowhere. No offer, no paycheck, no explanation.

After enough of those rounds, the doubt starts to creep in somewhere it does not belong. She began to wonder if her fifteen-plus years across advertising, operations, HR, and tech was too much rather than an asset. She even considered narrowing herself down into one niche just to seem less senior, less expensive, less like herself.

What changed was not her resume. It was the decision to stop asking a corporation for permission and start building something of her own, priced at what she actually knew she was worth.

THE PRICE OF DOUBT

Ryan Meinberg

You were told, Kendra's one, you were taught, I believe... about three different times, we want to bring you on board. We want to bring you to this company. And the delay was just getting insane... And it still goes nowhere. It's like, what just happened?

And then for this company, you texted me last week, just having a conversation by saying, did I ask for too much?

Alex

Was my price point too high?

Maybe I'm just demanding too much.

“It is expensive. It is a high ticket price, but I'm worth it. And I have to just move forward.”

CREATING HER OWN OPPORTUNITY

Alex

I should have had a role long time ago in a normal market. In a normal market, I would have had a quick role in a corporation... And I needed to make a change and I needed to change my mindset. I needed to say, you know what, I'm going to create my own opportunities.

I had to be really positive and really everything I kept saying, it's going to happen... I kept letting all the negative, all the negativity hold me down. And then the newest thing that I do is anything negative comes along, I shush it away. And then I make sure that everything is positive.

“I needed to make a change and I needed to change my mindset. I needed to say, you know what, I'm going to create my own opportunities.”

THE PROPOSAL THAT NAMED HER VALUE

Alex

When I put the proposal together, I was very confident with it... I said, no, it is a lot. It is expensive. It is a high ticket price, but I'm worth it. And I have to just move forward. It is what it is. I cannot consciously take less because it's a lot of work.

I gave them two models, a service model and a service and leadership, and they wanted service and leadership. So they did want my time and I just stuck to it.

Ryan Meinberg

Think about how much money you saved them... you made it a no brainer... And you got exactly what you deserve.

This is the starting point, not the ending point. She can expand this so much more for services, additional retainers, maybe additional hours, everything along those lines, because if the company grows, they're going to need her to expand too.

Alex

The proposal was very much in line with their problems, taking that doctor framework and saying, there's a solution to this. This is how we're going to come to it. It was just a direct correlation and it landed for a perfect time.

“Taking that doctor framework and saying, there's a solution to this. This is how we're going to come to it.”

A NEW IDENTITY, ON HER OWN TERMS

Olivia Gamber

You've made a huge transformation and I think you're now stepping into this new identity of business owner, and it's starting to seem less, moving from putting all your stability into a W-2 into now yourself. That's a big shift, and then to get into alignment with your values. That's huge.

Alex

This opportunity has allowed me to really be me, really bring my experience, really bring every facet of what makes my experience diverse.

I don't want to give it up. I'm not going to give up my hours, my personal time, to extra hours for someone else. I want to control my time and I want to control when I do this work.

“This opportunity has allowed me to really be me, really bring my experience, really bring every facet of what makes my experience diverse.”

Alex

It does change my vision for the future. I'm excited for the first time in a long time. I'm excited, but not just for work. I'm excited for what I can do, as someone who comes from immigrant parents, to say that I created this and show my daughters that.

Ready to Stop Applying?

Alex stopped waiting for a corporation to name her value and named it herself. If you are tired of making the final round with nothing to show for it, let's talk about what you are actually worth.
