Executive Career Upgrader
“I’m always looking for a new challenge. There are a lot of mountains to climb out there. When I run out of mountains, I’ll build a new one.”
-Sylvester Stallone
Â
Are you constantly looking for your next big challenge?Â
Do you crave the growth that comes with a bigger role with bigger impact?
Are you concerned you are getting complacent in your career and looking to achieve a new breakthrough?Â
The Executive Career Upgrader is driven, craves challenges, is willing to take risks in order to grow, wants to have a greater impact and income.
The good news is that you are a results driven and confident executive who everyone wants on their team!
The challenge with the Executive Career Upgrader is because they tend to be extremely great at what they do, their confidence can lead to many blind spots that keep them stuck in their career.
Anytime you are making an upgrade in your career, especially at the most elite levels, there is always a shift in how you are showing up, your mindset, how you communicate, and your ability to influence the C-Suite.
The bottom line is, you are great at what you do and your confidence is valuable, but you need to close the gaps in your behavior to break into the next level.
This means, what got you here won’t get you there.
To play at the highest levels you’re going to need to work on your mindset, how you communicate, and your ability to build relationships with C-level executives.
It is not enough to simply be great at what you do, you must become great at marketing yourself to the right audience. Hiring at the C-Level and one off is an emotional sale. Everyone at that level is qualified. The decision becomes more based on the experience you provide and how you’re showing up.
The final shift you need to make is a strategy that decommoditizes you.
Strategies that are not going to be effective for you:
- Leveraging recruiters - Recruiters can be valuable, but they are essentially the gatekeepers. They will simply ask you to apply or send your resume, just like everyone else making it challenging to stand out.Â
- Online cold applications - The odds are extremely low for you to land an executive role through a cold application. Further, the majority of these roles are not advertised or they are filled before they are advertised.Â
- Leading with your resume - Your resume will overwhelm people and make it challenging for them to advocate for you.
Strategies that will work:
- Build your army of advocates who understand your value and want to help you grow your relationships with executive leaders in target companies.
- Have a lot of conversations with executives to get clarity on which parts of your message are getting the most traction in the market.Â
- Focus on having more conversations with executive key decision makers so you can understand their problems and present the most relevant value proposition from your experience.
